I. Goal
    1.Cultivate students to become professional talents with proficiently

       practical and theoretical capability in refrigeration, air conditioning

       and energy technology.
        (1)Educate students the knowledge and skills relevant to

            mathematical science, refrigeration, air conditioning & energy

            engineering and electro-mechanical engineering to equip

            students with the capability to deal with engineering problems

            relevant to basic refrigeration, air conditioning and energy

            engineering.

             planning, design and construction supervision ove

II.Feature
  1.The Departmental Focusing Effort in Academic Research:
     R&D and Tests for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Energy-   

     saving Technology: It includes industrial or biotechnological 

    environment control techniques, inverter energy-saving techniques,

    the development for interior environment monitoring systems,

    vegetation plantation, the design and construction for environment

    air quality, and the component design and development for air

    conditioning and energy-saving technologies.
   2.Technical Integration for Renewable Energy and Air Conditioning 

      Systems: solar energy and fuel cell techniques, the combination

      with solar energy, wind power generation and fuel cells to establish

      diversified power supply systems.

   
Department History:
    For the past few years, with prosperous economic development in Taiwan, life quality of people is also improved continuously. However, Taiwan is located in a subtropical area with highly humid climate in summer. Therefore, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment is naturally highly demanded by business buildings, medical care buildings, department stores, traffic tools and supermarkets to establish comfortable work, sales and home-stay environment to improve life quality. Furthermore, because various industrial techniques in Taiwan have been highly improved, the humidity and purification for environment required by industrial processes are also severely requested, especially hi-technology like semiconductors and various precision machine productions. The refrigeration and air conditioning techniques are therefore requested to extremely high levels and the refrigeration and air-conditioning industries expand continuously.

For the past few years, due to the changes to economic structures in Taiwan, the development for refrigeration and air conditioning industries are actively thrived and the technique levels are also highly improved. In future, industries relevant to refrigeration and air conditioning are potentially promising

In order to face the major changes of the environments and the urgent demand of the special technical talents on the refrigeration and air-conditioning techniques, the university separated the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineering Program from the Department of Electrical engineering and renamed as the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering Division on August 1st in 1998. Since August 1st 2001, the division was promoted to the Department of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineering and Professor Shou-Ping Hsu became the first chairmen of the department. The graduate school was established in August 1st 2004, and the graduate school and undergraduate were combined in August 1st 2006. The department was renamed as the Department of Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Energy Engineering since August 1st 2007.

Department Development:

1. Short-term Development2009-2010

(1) Coordinate with international enrollment cooperation plans to recruit foreign students

(2) Promote to establish major laboratories dedicated to energy and environment control research domains

(3) Enhance the cooperation with employment training bureaus, guide students to be qualified for B-class certification and plan to establish the training sites for B-class certifying examinations.

(4) Establish assistant education systems for graduate school students

(5) Enhance the enrollment for industrial graduate school and on-job graduate school programs

(6) Continuously promote the certifying activities for engineering and technology education

(7) Coordinate with policies made by governments and our school to establish lecture sites in mainland China, together with advanced programs and short-term seminars available for business organizations from Taiwan.

(8) Complete department and institute assessment to achieve excellent scoring performance

(9) Make planning for examination and test centers relevant to air conditioning equipment

(10) Fulfill internship equipment for 4-year colleges

(11) Simplify education systems for advanced education programs

(12) Make teacher research grouping in accordance with personal specialties

(13) Coordinate to give aids for hosting 2009 Asia Air Conditioning Association Theme Meeting

(14) Create teacher efficiency assessment systems:

2. Intermediate-term Development2011-2014

(1) Fulfill R&D equipment demands

(2) Establish equipment examination and test centers relevant to the Air Conditioning and Energy-saving Department

(3) Promote interior vegetation plantation, interior air quality design, construction, management and monitoring over air conditioning

(4) Coordinate with education policies and encourage full-time teachers to be employed by industrial business organizations for a year conditioned with no-salary suspension.

(5) Enhance the international student and academic exchanges with other foreign universities

(6) Foreign students recruit (Graduate school programs)

(7) Encourage internal teachers aiming for post-doctor research programs and create self-assessment systems

(8) Coordinate with policies to establish ESCOEnergy Services CompanyService Network.
